Active App State Phishing Attempts: What to Do

Current Phishing Attack Warning sent to all App State Faculty, Staff & Students on September 11, 2025 at 1:00pm


Information Technology Services (ITS) is actively monitoring and responding to ongoing high-volume phishing attempts.

Important reminders related to these types of attacks


Appalachian State University:

  • Does not send emails, texts or phone calls asking university members (faculty, staff or students) to validate or verify university accounts
  • Does not ask students to pay faculty or staff directly for any service related to the university (internship, job, etc)
  • Does not ask university members to share personal information (university account password, social security number, two-factor codes, etc) via email or text
  • Does notsend Duo push notifications that you did not authorize
    • If you are experiencing Duo authorizations that you did not prompt, or you are experiencing Duo fatigue (being prompted continuously), always deny and report
